Residential Charlotte Home Value: Painting the Interior
Many people have often asked the question of whether they should paint the interior of their home before they sell it. They are trying to find whether the work involved in painting it will actually pay off in the sale, or whether it will raise the price/value of their home. There Is a lot of speculation on the matter but the truth is, it will not add value to your home. There are some really good points, however, that might still have you re-painting the interior anyway.
Think about how many homes that actually sells for the starting asking price. Generally, a house is listed at a certain price and a potential buyer comes in and makes an offer below the asking price. The seller can then determine whether or not they want to accept, make a counter-offer, or simply reject the offer. They do this until they both reach an agreement and continue on with the sale. That said, how likely do you think you are going to be with an old paint job on the interior of your home? It’s not real likely. In fact, it is much more likely to get closer to your asking price with a fresh new paint job.
So, to finalize the statement of whether or not a new paint job on the inside of a home will actually add value to your home or not, the answer is yes and no. It will not “technically” add value on the appraisal, but the one thing you should always remember is that no matter how much something is appraised for, it is only worth as much as someone is willing to give for it. That doesn’t go for only homes, but everything. Now, with that said, it will add value in the fact that you may have an easier time getting the most out of your home as long as it looks fresh and clean.
There are some things you need to know when painting, though. You should always go with neutral or earthy colors trimmed out in white. This is the most universal colors that are liked by many. It makes it much easier to imagine your own furniture in the new home and us just appealing to the potential buyers. There are occasions that other colors are appropriate, but that is a determination that you would have to make.
So, is the return on investment worth it to paint your home? Absolutely!
